CIRCLE OF LIFE

Ensuring Quality

After the tree has been growing for about 3 years, pruning can begin.

To make sure all our trees are of top quality, each is individually shaped every year and great care is taken to select a straight leader. Pruning encourages the remaining buds to grow more vigorously; this produces lots of branches making our trees bushy and uniform. Most of our pruning is done with secateurs but, once trees grow larger, we sometimes use garden shears to shape them. This is a quicker process and our Needlefast® Fraser Fir responds particularly well to this method.

At the same stage, we cut away the bottom branches to form a handle on the tree which makes it easier to mount in your stand at Christmas. This also maximises airflow and helps to control fungal diseases.
