Our plantations are a valuable habitat for wildlife throughout the growth of our trees. Flora and fauna shift with the 10 year rotation of the crop and all our methods are specially selected with the aim of keeping any impact to a minimum.
To give our trees the best chance of survival our growers have to protect them against pests and animals that can damage and graze on foliage. To keep everything harmonious, fields are fenced to stop small animals, such as deer and rabbits, feeding on the foliage.
Not all bugs are bad for our Christmas trees – Ladybirds help by eating harmful aphids, so we want to encourage them. However, insects that feed on bark and needles can present problems. To control these we apply pesticides and do our best to get between branches so harmful insects have nowhere to hide! Great care is taken to identify exact species harming trees; we then endeavour to only use sprays that will control them and not hurt insects or aphids which aren’t causing damage.
Every tree has a story that starts many years before it reaches your home. Learn how our growers care for your Needlefresh Christmas tree throughout its life.
