CIRCLE OF LIFE

Cutting Your Tree

When cutting time arrives, skilled chainsaw operators begin to fell the trees. To ensure they’re in the best condition they then need to be left lying in the field for 2 days. This allows them to stop transpiring and minimises over heating during transportation.

Next, trees are netted by specialist machines designed to prevent damage, each machine can net about 4 thousand trees per day. Netted trees are then transported to the yard for final selection and packing. Once in the yard, pallets are packed according to each order before being loaded for delivery to stores.

Not all trees are cut at the same time, it can take 3 to 4 years before a field is completely harvested. When we begin to harvest a field, the trees are thinned to leave enough space for the remaining trees to grow. We do this by only selecting the best of the small trees for harvest. Over the next few years we continue to harvest the remaining trees and occasionally trees are left to grow on into Display trees, which can be left in place for up to 20 years.
